A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. MONROE
HOWELL HARPE OF WEST COLUMBIA UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened
to learn of the death on March 30, 1994, of Mr. Monroe Howell
Harpe of West Columbia; and
Whereas, he was a native of Clydesville, Georgia, an Army veteran of
World War II and the Korean War where he served with distinction,
and was associated with Carolina Eastman and Dunbar Funeral Home
prior to his retirement; and
Whereas, he was known and respected throughout West Columbia and
Lexington County as a man of unquestioned character and courtesy,
and he served his community in a number of ways as a member of
American Legion Post 79, Sinclair Masonic Lodge 154, and the First
Baptist Church of West Columbia;
Whereas, he was above-all a devoted husband to his lovely wife,
Helen, and a good father to his son, Jim, and daughters, Julia and
Martha; and
Whereas, with the death of this fine man at the age of seventy-nine,
the people of West Columbia and Lexington County have lost an
outstanding citizen and a good friend. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their
deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Monroe Howell Harpe of West
Columbia upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his
widow, Mrs. Helen Jaco Harpe.
