A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF JOSEPH HOWARD
PATRICK, DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN OF GREENWOOD
COUNTY, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND
MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Joseph Howard Patrick of Greenwood County has died at the
age of eighty; and
Whereas, he excelled as an athlete and student leader at Erskine College,
where he was student body president; and
Whereas, after entering the business world he revived and managed a
struggling brick manufacturing company and built the company,
Southern Brick, into one of the leaders in the nation's brick industry; and
Whereas, Mr. Patrick became president of Southern Brick Company and
led the company until his retirement in 1984; and
Whereas, he is recognized as the chief architect for the formation of the
Brick Association of South Carolina; and
Whereas, he served in leadership capacities with the Brick Institute of
America and served as that organization's president from 1974 to 1976;
and
Whereas, he was a devoted churchman and also gave freely of his time
and talents to many civic organizations and causes; and
Whereas, he was a member of the Greenwood County Hall of Fame and
was greatly respected and admired in his community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, expresses sorrow at the death of Joseph Howard Patrick,
distinguished citizen of Greenwood County, and extends sympathy to
his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Patrick's family.
