A Bill to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section
40-5-27 so as to provide that a person who otherwise meets the requirements of
practicing law in this State is not required to pay a license fee or be a
member of the South Carolina State Bar in order to practice law.

A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA,
1976, BY ADDING SECTION 40-5-27 SO AS TO PROVIDE
THAT A PERSON WHO OTHERWISE MEETS THE
REQUIREMENTS OF PRACTICING LAW IN THIS STATE IS
NOT REQUIRED TO PAY A LICENSE FEE OR BE A MEMBER
OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE BAR IN ORDER TO
PRACTICE LAW.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 40-5-27. Notwithstanding Section 40-5-20 or any
other provision of law, a person who, except for the payment of a
license fee, meets the requirements to practice law in South
Carolina, as prescribed by the South Carolina Supreme Court, is not
required to pay the license fee or be a member of the South
Carolina State Bar in order to practice law in South Carolina."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the
Governor.
