A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE BEST WISHES AND HARDIEST CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL'S MODEL UNITED NATIONS TEAM AND THEIR FACULTY ADVISOR AND SPONSOR, MS. LYNN WASHINGTON, ON CAPTURING THEIR TWELFTH STRAIGHT INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE HELD ANNUALLY IN NEW YORK CITY.
Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to learn that the Richland Northeast High School's Model United Nations Team has once again won the international championship. Richland Northeast was selected as one of only three first-place recipients; and
Whereas, there were approximately two thousand three hundred students attending from the United States and nine foreign countries, including South Africa, Mexico, Germany, and Denmark; and
Whereas, the competition gives students firsthand experience in international negotiations. Delegates gain insight into the workings of the United Nations by assuming the roles of United Nation representatives and by actively participating in the resolution of global issues; and
Whereas, the twenty-two member team, under the faculty sponsorship of Lifetime Achievement Award winner Lynn Washington, represented the United Kingdom this year. The team prepared a two hundred page paper detailing their country's policies and solutions and represented the United Kingdom on fifteen different committees; and
Whereas, the team members include: A. J. Alon, Brigette Lindsey, Foard Copeland, Leah Greenberg, Leslie Ann Brooks, Andy Pineda, Landan Lashgarnevis, Jernell Simmons, Darrius Lanston, Andrew Friedman, Sheena Lazenby, Kathryn Anderson, Julie Simmons, Ben Kim, Dawn Miller, Venus Behrouzjou, Joe Wilson, Yulanda Curtis, Sonya Scott, James Pineda, Kaity Kratsios, and Laura Brownson; and
Whereas, it seems fitting for the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to honor this fine group of competitors, along with their advisor and sponsor, Ms. Lynn Washington, and wish them the very best in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
The members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their best wishes and hardiest congratulations to the Richland Northeast High School's Model United Nations Team and their faculty advisor and sponsor, Ms. Lynn Washington, on capturing their twelfth straight international championship at the National High School Model United Nations Conference held annually in New York City.
Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to Richland Northeast High School and Ms. Lynn Washington, of Columbia.
