A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE ORANGEBURG COUNTY NATIVE WOODROW "WOODY" DANTZLER OF CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ON HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS QUARTERBACK AND HIS EXCEPTIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CLEMSON "TIGERS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE FOOTBALL CAREER AND OTHERWISE.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are pleased to honor Orangeburg County native Woodrow "Woody" Dantzler for his record-breaking accomplishments at Clemson as the Tigers' first string quarterback; and
Whereas, Woody Dantzler remarkably broke fifty-two records during his collegiate career, three of which were broken in the final game. He finished with 460 career completed passes, a career passing efficiency of 132.47, and 1061 rushing yards this season; and
Whereas, in 2001, Woody became the first NCAA player to reach 2000 yards passing and 1000 yards rushing in the same season, as well as the first to reach 5000 yards passing and 2500 yards rushing in his career; and
Whereas, Woody Dantzler was named the CNNSI National Player of the Week and the ACC Player of the Week after his dazzling performance against Georgia Tech. He was also named as the first-team All-ACC quarterback for the 2001 season; and
Whereas, Woody Dantzler is a leader on as well as off the field. He was honored by being chosen to give the invocation at Clemson's Graduation Exercises on December 20, 2001, and he was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch as it traveled through Clemson on December 4, 2001, on its way to Salt Lake City; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly applaud Woody Dantzler for his spectacular football career for the Clemson Tigers and look forward to hearing of his future achievements. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Orangeburg County native Woodrow "Woody" Dantzler of Clemson University on his outstanding accomplishments as quarterback and his exceptional contributions to the Clemson "Tigers" Football Team this season and to wish him much success in his future football career and otherwise.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Woodrow "Woody" Dantzler.
