A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE COLLECTIVE GRIEF AND ANGUISH OF THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE PEOPLE OF SPAIN, AND ESPECIALLY MADRID, WHO SUFFERED LOSS IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE APPALLING BOMBINGS ON MARCH 11, 2004, EXPRESSING THE BELIEF THAT THE PERPETRATORS OF THESE BOMBINGS BE SWIFTLY BROUGHT TO JUSTICE, AND PLEDGING OUR PRAYERS AND OUR SUPPORT IN THIS HORRIFIC TIME IN THEIR COUNTRY.
Whereas, on March 11, 2004, over 200 innocent people lost their lives and their loved ones or were injured in a devastating bombing on the train system of Madrid, Spain; and
Whereas, these terrible losses were suffered by ordinary people as they were going about their daily lives, merely traveling to work, school, or other destinations; and
Whereas, millions of people in this nation, and across the world, were sickened as they learned of this violent act of terrorism; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, on behalf of the State of South Carolina, desire to acknowledge and express their sorrow and that of its citizens to all those who have suffered loss through this terrible tragedy; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly also believe that all those who participated in or sponsored these bombings should be quickly brought to justice without regard to region or border. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express the collective grief and anguish of the people of the State of South Carolina to the people of Spain, and especially Madrid, who suffered loss in the aftermath of the appalling bombings on March 11, 2004, and express the belief that the perpetrators of these bombings be swiftly brought to justice, and pledging our prayers and our support in this horrific time in their country.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the current Prime Minster of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar and the incoming Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriquez Zapatero.
