VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

3/29/2005

H. 3810

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME AND BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL VISIT TO OUR FRIENDS FROM THE WESTERN ISLES OF SCOTLAND AS THEY VISIT THEIR SISTER CITY, THE TOWN OF PENDLETON.

Whereas, in 1995, Jane Cahaly began the relationship between the Town of Pendleton and the Western Isles of Scotland by sending students from Pendleton High School to the Nicholson Institute in Scotland; and

Whereas, the Western Isles of Scotland have been the Town of Pendleton's Sister City since 2001, when a group from Scotland came to Pendleton for the official signing ceremony; and

Whereas, in 2002, Pendleton sent thirty-seven delegates to have the official signing ceremony in Scotland; and

Whereas, this program provides many positive learning experiences and presents opportunities for the participants from both countries to enjoy cultural exchanges which otherwise might not be available to them; and

Whereas, the Sister City program is a valued resource in teaching respect and tolerance for cultures which differ from ours and helps bond friendships which could not happen without this exchange; and

Whereas, this program will allow our neighbors from Scotland to enjoy the many fine attractions our State has to offer, and allow them to experience the kindness and hospitality for which the citizens of South Carolina are known worldwide; and

Whereas, the visitors from Scotland are Mr. Angus McCormack, Ms. Mary McCormack, Ms. Alyth McCormack, Mr. Peter Carlin, Ms. Morag Munro, Mr. Bill HowatNext, Ms. Eleanor PreviousHowat, Mr. Calum Iain MacIver, and Mr. Gordon MacKenzie; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to thank the participants who make this exchange possible and hope for the continued success of this program for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend a warm welcome and best wishes for a successful visit to our friends from the Western Isles of Scotland as they visit their Sister City, the Town of Pendleton.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the group from Scotland.
