 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND ROBERT HOWELL "BOB" SHARP FOR HIS
 CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SUMTER COMMUNITY, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BEING
 RECOGNIZED AS THE CITIZENS BANK 2007 BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR.

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND ROBERT HOWELL "BOB" SHARP FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SUMTER COMMUNITY, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BEING RECOGNIZED AS THE CITIZENS BANK 2007 BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Sumter's Robert Howell "Bob" Sharp was named The Citizens Bank 2007 Business Person of the Year on February 2, 2008; and

Whereas, born in Alabama and raised in Tennessee, Bob Sharp moved to Sumter with his family when he was a teenager, and he entered Edmunds High School, where he lettered in baseball and track; and

Whereas, he returned to Sumter after college in Tennessee and Florida, and he has had a profound impact on the business community ever since; and

Whereas, Bob Sharp joined his father in the construction industry, and they eventually founded their own business, Sharp Construction Company; and

Whereas, the company has diversified under his leadership to include a division that builds schools throughout South Carolina, a Mobile Storage Company, Stateburg Housing, and Sharp Construction's Home Division, which has built homes in Sumter for more than forty years; and

Whereas, not only a strong competitor in the business community, Bob Sharp has taken that same spirit to the race tracks since 1967 when he purchased a 1970 Chevy Coupe race car, and he has garnered over two hundred wins and seven track championships since then; and

Whereas, he became a staunch supporter of Sumter Speedway, and in addition to his prized checkered flags, twice he was voted Most Popular Driver, which is a source of deep satisfaction for him; and

Whereas, Bob Sharp is devoted to his family, and he and his beloved wife Donna raised seven fine daughters and now have eleven grandchildren; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives express profound gratitude to Robert Howell "Bob" Sharp for a lifetime of service marked by faith, integrity, and honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Robert Howell "Bob" Sharp for his contributions to the Sumter community, and congratulate him for being recognized as The Citizens Bank 2007 Business Person of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Robert Howell "Bob" Sharp.
