Similar(H 5034) A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE HILTON HEAD ACADEMY PREPARATORY SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, OF BEAUFORT COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR GARNERING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION REGION IV CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. 04/16/08 House Introduced and adopted HJ-10

H. 5033

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE HILTON HEAD ACADEMY PREPARATORY SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, OF BEAUFORT COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR GARNERING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION REGION IV CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Hilton Head Preparatory School girls basketball team won the South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Region IV Class AAA State Championship; and

Whereas, in the 2007-2008 basketball season, the Hilton Head Lady Dolphins remained undefeated in the region and boasted twenty-nine wins and only two losses; and

Whereas, on March 1, 2008, to the delight of their admirers and the anguish of their adversaries, the Lady Dolphins captured their fourth consecutive state championship, by soundly defeating Heathwood Hall Episcopal School 35-25; and

Whereas, a former player in the National Basketball Association, Dr. Robert P. Sulek has coached the girls varsity team since 1997 and has led them to six state championship titles in that time; and

Whereas, Coach Sulek and Assistant Coaches Kenn Luthanen, Stacy Benedik, and Rick Meccariello, employing their own athletic skills and experience, forged another championship team in a sport that requires strength, agility, precision, and speed; and

Whereas, with relentless work in demanding practices, the Lady Dolphins have brought pride to their school and community through a winning season and through capturing the state championship title; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to acknowledge the achievements of the Hilton Head girls basketball team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Hilton Head Academy Preparatory School girls basketball team, of Beaufort County, for a successful season, and congratulate the players and coaches for garnering the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Region IV Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Susan R. Groesbeck, head of school, and Dr. Robert P. Sulek, head coach.
