WILLING HELPERS CLUB.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MRS. MARY SHELTON WASHINGTON OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF SECOND CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH RECOGNIZING HER FOR HER MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE WILLING HELPERS CLUB.
Whereas, Mrs. Mary Shelton Washington, a resident of Richland County, was born in the town of Shelton in Fairfield County; and
Whereas, she is the widow of Mr. Dwight Lawrence Washington; and
Whereas, Mrs. Washington received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Benedict College, her Master's degree from New York State University, and completed additional studies at both South Carolina State University, and the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she was an educator in the public school system for forty years and served as a teacher at Anna Boyd Elementary School and E. L. Wright Middle School; and
Whereas, Mrs. Washington has served as a Red Cross volunteer for twenty-four years, and as a poll manager for Ward 9 in the Waverly Community in Richland County for twenty-five years; and
Whereas, she is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of University Women; and
Whereas, she has been a faithful member of Second Calvary Baptist Church since 1939 and is a member of the Missionary Society, past financial secretary for the Building Fund, was named Woman of the Year in 1996, and received the Service to Mankind Award in 1985; and
Whereas, Mrs. Washington is one of the original members of Second Calvary Baptist Church's Willing Helpers Club which was founded in 1949; and
Whereas, on July 9, 2000, Second Calvary Baptist Church will recognize her for her more than fifty years of dedicated service to the Willing Helpers Club; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to recognize this outstanding daughter of South Carolina on this momentous occasion. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, hereby recognize and commend Mrs. Mary Shelton Washington of Richland County on the occasion of her being recognized by Second Calvary Baptist Church for her more than fifty years of service as a member of the Willing Helpers Club.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Mary Shelton Washington.
