A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE REVEREND ROBERT
EARL DENNIS FOR HIS TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF
OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE AS PASTOR OF
CEDAR GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH IN GREENVILLE COUNTY.
Whereas, the Reverend Robert Earl Dennis was educated at American
Baptist Theological Seminary Extension in Greenville from 1967-1968,
and Morris College in Sumter, where he received his Bachelor of
Theology degree in 1978; and
Whereas, he was presented an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree at
Benedict College in Columbia in 1990; and
Whereas, he has served as pastor of Holly Spring Baptist Church in
Belton from 1969-1970 and has been the pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist
Church in Simpsonville since 1969; and
Whereas, Reverend Dennis has been a member of many organizations
over the years, including the Greenville Branch of the NAACP, the
South Carolina Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention, Board
of Directors for Benjamin Banneker Sickle Cell Anemia, Board of
Directors Greenville County Department of Social Services, and the
Greenville Urban League's Housing Corporation Board; and
Whereas, he has received the "Board Member of the Year Award,
SHARE 1982"; the "Distinguished Service Award SHARE
Board of Directors, 1979-1984"; and the "Distinguished
Service Award, Golden Strip YMCA Board of Directors,
1979-1982"; and
Whereas, he was a Jefferson Award nominee in 1985, and the City of
Greenville proclaimed June 2, 1985, as "The Reverend Robert E.
Dennis Day in the City of Greenville"; and Whereas, he has been
a highly respected leader in the community with an abiding desire for
social justice; and
Whereas, he has been a dynamic pastor at Cedar Grove Baptist Church
for a quarter of a century and is truly beloved by his congregation and
by many, many other citizens of Simpsonville and Greenville County;
and
Whereas, there will be services to honor him on Friday, May 27, 1994;
and
Whereas, Reverend Dennis is an outstanding individual and an excellent
churchman, and it gives the members of the General Assembly pleasure
to have this opportunity to recognize and commend him. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South carolina, by this
resolution, recognizes and commends the Reverend Robert Earl Dennis
for his twenty-five years of outstanding and dedicated service as pastor
of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Greenville County.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Reverend Robert Earl Dennis, 628 New Harrison Bridge Road,
Simpsonville, 29681.
