OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT OF PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DR. KENNETH BRADLEY
ORR ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS
PRESIDENT OF PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE.
Whereas, Dr. Kenneth Bradley Orr took office as President of
Presbyterian College in 1979 and has continuously provided strong
leadership and vision for the school during his tenure; and
Whereas, Dr. Orr is married to the former Janice Jarrett of
Tallahassee, Florida and they have three sons, Kevin, Jeffrey and
Jonathan; and
Whereas, Dr. Orr completed his Doctor of Philosophy at the
University of Michigan's Center for the Study of Higher Learning
and his dissertation entitled "Impact of the Depression Decade,
1929-1939, on Faculty in American Colleges and Universities" was
awarded the Distinguished Dissertation Award in 1978 by the
Association for the Study of Higher Education; and
Whereas, for more than seven years in a row Presbyterian College
has been rated by U.S. News and World Report in its survey,
"The Best Colleges in America", as one of the top liberal arts
colleges in the country; and
Whereas, during Dr. Orr's tenure there has been a fifty percent
increase in the size of the faculty, a record enrollment of 1,185 and
an expanded academic curriculum; and
Whereas, Dr. Orr's management and fund raising abilities have
brought financial stability to the institution and increased the college
endowment from $6 million to its present value of over $50 million;
and
Whereas, Dr. Orr successfully closed a $38.5 million capital fund
campaign entitled "Building from Strength" for Presbyterian College
in 1992; and
Whereas, Dr. Orr serves or has served as chairman of the South
Atlantic Conference Council of Presidents, chairman of the Council
of President of Independent Colleges and Universities of South
Carolina, president of the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and
Universities and the National Advisory Committee on Institutional
Quality and Integrity; and
Whereas, Dr. Orr's extraordinary accomplishments and achievements
during his tenure at Presbyterian College serve to make him a true
and dedicated public servant to the students, faculty and staff of
Presbyterian College and the people of South Carolina. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of South Carolina, by this resolution,
hereby recognize and commend Dr. Kenneth Bradley Orr on the
occasion of his retirement as President of Presbyterian College and
wish him much success in his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Kenneth Bradley Orr, Ph.D.
