A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO HONOR HELEN MARTIN OF SENECA IN OCONEE COUNTY WHOSE OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND IMPROVEMENT HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY ECKERD DRUG STORE CORPORATION'S FOURTH ANNUAL SALUTE TO WOMEN PROGRAM.
Whereas, Helen Martin of Seneca has been recognized for her volunteer efforts in many arenas, notably medical, educational, and spiritual; and
Whereas, Mrs. Martin, a breast cancer survivor, has served as co-chair of the Oconee County Relay for Life Cancer Walk for the past three years and raised more than one hundred thousand dollars for the fight against cancer; and
Whereas, through the Reach to Recovery Volunteer Program, she also offers support and encouragement to women dealing with a diagnosis of breast cancer; and
Whereas, this medical office manager supports the annual "Walk-With-the-Docs" program with the Rosa Clark Medical Clinic in raising funds for free medical care in the county; and
Whereas, she has served on the Alumni Board of Anderson College and is the founding co-chair of the Parent's Council of Newberry College; and
Whereas, her thirty-year participation in the Miss America local and state programs and the first-ever Miss Teen Oconee Pageant has helped to empower young women through the awarding of educational scholarships; and
Whereas, this multi-faceted woman is an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca, serving as past president of the Sanctuary Choir, teacher, and mission volunteer; and
Whereas, Helen Martin's interest and involvement in the health and welfare of others is a model of community concern for Kim and Jeff, the adult children of her thirty-eight year marriage to Freeman Martin, and to their grandchildren, Kirby, Casey, and Sarah Parker. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly honor Helen Martin of Seneca in Oconee County whose outstanding commitment to community involvement and improvement has been recognized by Eckerd Drug Store Corporation's Fourth Annual Salute to Women Program.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Martin.
