H. 4969
A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MARY ETHEL WITHERSPOON WEEKS OF SUMTER COUNTY ON MARCH 25, 2006, AND TO CONVEY THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by news of the passing of Mary Ethel Witherspoon Weeks of Sumter County on March 25, 2006; and
Whereas, born on September 11, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Mrs. Mary Bracey Witherspoon and Mr. Samuel Witherspoon; and
Whereas, a loving wife and mother, she was married to Mr. John Williams from 1928 until his death in 1931. In 1932, she married Mr. Lewis Weeks, Sr. and was faithfully devoted to him until his death in 1943; and
Whereas, dedicating her life in service to others, Mrs. Weeks worked at Tuomey Hospital in housekeeping and dietary, and as a nurse's assistant and operating room assistant. She retired from the Shaw Air Force Base Housing Department in 1974 after almost twenty years; and
Whereas, deeply committed to her faith, Mrs. Weeks attended Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her death. There, she shared her time in many church activities as an active member of the Senior Missionary Society, taking care of the needs of the sick, shut-in, and needy members; and
Whereas, Mrs. Weeks is survived by three sons, three daughters, thirty-five grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of devoted extended family members and friends; and
Whereas, Mrs. Weeks is sorely missed, but always will be remembered as a fine woman who possessed great character and grace. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mary Ethel Witherspoon Weeks of Sumter County, and convey the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Lewis Weeks, Jr.
