RICHLAND COUNTIES, ON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR
2006-2007.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE JENNIFER "BUFFY" MURPHY, A FIFTH GRADE TEACHER AT IRMO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN SCHOOL DISTRICT 5 OF LEXINGTON AND RICHLAND COUNTIES, ON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2006-2007.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are very pleased to learn that Jennifer "Buffy" Murphy was named South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2006-2007 by the South Carolina Department of Education; and
Whereas, Mrs. Murphy, who grew up in Lexington-Richland School District 5 and graduated from Irmo High School, is a fifth grade teacher at Irmo Elementary School, where she began her teaching career six years ago; and
Whereas, after earning her bachelor's degree from Clemson University, Murphy was called to teaching and obtained a master's degree in education from the University of South Carolina and additional graduate-level credit from the College of Charleston; she has made presentations at the state and national level on subjects ranging from literacy to technology; and
Whereas, Mrs. Murphy has not only further honed her skills becoming a National Board Certified teacher, but she has also shared her extraordinary talent and imparted her passion for teaching by serving as a mentor and adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina's Professional Development School Network - a partnership between the university and local school districts working to enhance the knowledge and skills of educators; and
Whereas, an exemplary teacher and leader in education, Mrs. Murphy approaches her career with unparalleled commitment and infectious enthusiasm; she is selfless in her devotion to her students and finds great satisfaction and value in building relationships with her students and their families; and
Whereas, upon joining the faculty, Mrs. Murphy quickly became a cornerstone of Irmo Elementary School. Through her innovative techniques and teaching philosophies, she not only motivates her students to become lifelong learners, but she also inspires her fellow educators to further their own professional growth and development; and
Whereas, Mrs. Murphy's classroom provides an environment ripe for learning and a community ideal for individual growth. Mrs. Murphy is committed to helping every student succeed, and she validates each child from the moment he or she enters her classroom. Students not only get a firm educational foundation, they also grow in self-confidence and self-worth and they learn by example how to value and respect each other; and
Whereas, it is with great admiration and appreciation that the members of the General Assembly recognize such an exceptional educator and South Carolinian, Mrs. Jennifer "Buffy" Murphy, upon being selected for this coveted award and extend to her best wishes and great success during her tenure as the state's public education ambassador. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Jennifer "Buffy" Murphy, a fifth grade teacher at Irmo Elementary School in School District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties, on being named South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2006-2007.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mrs. Jennifer Murphy.
