THE COMMITTEE ON
INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS
To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 5198) to request that the Department of Transportation erect signs in Spartanburg County at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 9 and Old Furnace Road and at the intersection, etc., respectfully
REPORT:
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:
ROBERT W. LEACH, SR. for Committee.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ERECT SIGNS IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY AT THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 9 AND OLD FURNACE ROAD AND AT THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 9 AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 85 THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "BOILING SPRINGS HOME OF THE BOILING SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS 2008 CLASS AAAA STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONS".
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Boiling Springs High School varsity baseball team won the Class AAAA State Championship title on May 14, 2008; and
Whereas, in a 24 and 6 season, the Boiling Springs Bulldogs claimed the state title against the Conway High School Tigers with a 5 to 1 victory in the second game of the championship playoff; and
Whereas, to the sheer exhilaration of their fans and the chagrin of their foes, Boiling Springs won the first state title for any Bulldog men's varsity team in the school's history before hundreds of Boiling Springs students, many of whom had taken the more than four-hour trip in school buses to cheer for their team; and
Whereas, pitcher Cameron Holmes, a junior, pitched a complete game, allowing only four Conway hits, walking just one of their batters, and striking out nine of them, one of which was a bases-loaded strike out to end a Tiger threat at the bottom of the fifth inning; and
Whereas, seniors Jimmy Revan, pitcher, and Jeffrey Campbell, catcher, distinguished themselves throughout the season and were named to the All-Star Game; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires skill, strength, strategy, and quickness, Coach Jeff Lipscomb and Assistant Coaches Terry Hughes, Joel Goff, and Jason Cole used their own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship team and teach the players lessons that have prepared them well for life; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly believe it is fitting and proper to recognize the Bulldogs' championship team by having signs erected in Spartanburg County that commemorate this achievement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation erect signs in Spartanburg County at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 9 and Old Furnace Road and at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 9 and Interstate Highway 85 that contain the words "Boiling Springs Home of the Boiling Springs High School Bulldogs 2008 Class AAAA State Baseball Champions".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
