H. 4690

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE JOINT INITIATIVE OF NEW UNITED RESOURCE RECOVERY CORPORATION, COCA-COLA BOTTLING COMPANY UNITED, AND COCA-COLA RECYCLING WITH THE CITY OF SPARTANBURG, AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR SUCCESS WITH AND EXPANSION OF THEIR RECYCLING PROGRAM.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that New United Resource Recovery Corporation (NURRC) has partnered with Coca-Cola Recycling, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, and the City of Spartanburg to increase recycling efforts in Spartanburg; and

Whereas, under an investment agreement with Coca-Cola North America, NURRC opened the world's largest bottle-to-bottle recycling plant in Spartanburg in 2009; and

Whereas, at full capacity, the plant can produce approximately one hundred million pounds of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic for reuse each year; and

Whereas, the plant has had a significant impact on recycling efforts in the City of Spartanburg through iRecycle, a school recycling program launched in area schools to educate students about recycling and encourage them to begin recycling at home and school; and

Whereas, expanding its curbside recycling program with the addition of single stream rolling carts, the City of Spartanburg will unite with Coca-Cola Recycling, Coca-Cola of Spartanburg, and NURRC to inaugurate an incentive program to encourage residents to recycle properly; and

Whereas, a long-standing market leader in commercializing PET beverage containers made from recycled content, the Coca-Cola Company has been investing in the technology since 1988 and is currently using recycled PET in nearly twenty markets; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are grateful for the significant contributions to our State made by Coca-Cola Recycling , Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, and their one thousand three hundred thirty-eight employees statewide. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the joint initiative of New United Resource Recovery Corporation, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, and Coca-Cola Recycling with the City of Spartanburg, and commend them for success with and expansion of their recycling program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Tony Price and the employees of the Coca-Cola system in South Carolina.
