 RECEIVING THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD.

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JOHN "JACK" MITCHELL FOR HIS EXTRAORDINARY VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON RECEIVING THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation has awarded Jack Mitchell the President's Volunteer Service Award; and

Whereas, our country's success must be credited in part to the daily acts of kindness exhibited by individuals who consider service to others a responsibility and privilege; and

Whereas, research indicates that volunteerism brings us closer in our families, communities, neighborhoods, State, and nation; and

Whereas, individuals who are actively involved as volunteers and engaged in community service reap the personal benefits associated with being a part of experiences that can potentially impact the well-being and success of others; and

Whereas, established in 2003, the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation presents an opportunity to recognize the significant contributions made by volunteers in our communities and to encourage more people to serve; and

Whereas, the purpose of the President's Volunteer Service Award program is to provide a means of thanking and honoring citizens who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service; and

Whereas, Jack Mitchell was recently honored for his documented volunteerism and community service in South Carolina as a recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award; and

Whereas, for four hundred seventy hours of documented community service and volunteerism, Jack Mitchell received this award at the Silver Level; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is grateful for the outstanding volunteer service of Jack Mitchell, a dedicated citizen whose service addresses needs in our communities that would likely not be addressed without volunteer effort, especially the needs that have an impact on the success and lives of students, and whose life teaches the noble character of service above self. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jack Mitchell for his extraordinary volunteer service to his community and congratulate him upon receiving the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Jack Mitchell.
