RESOLUTION
TO DECLARE SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 1994, AS

CONDUCTOR, DR. BINGHAM L. VICK, JR., WHO WILL
PERFORM BENJAMIN BRITTEN'S WAR REQUIEM,
WHICH IS ITS PREMIER PERFORMANCE IN SOUTH

Whereas, 1994 marks the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day, the pivotal
action which brought World War II to a close; and
Whereas, the United States of America has been well served by brave
and valiant men and women in defense of our nation and in pursuit of
peace on earth; and
Whereas, Benjamin Britten composed the War Requiem as a
monument to peace and in celebration of the rebuilding of St.
Michael's Cathedral in Coventry, England, which was destroyed
during World War II; and
Whereas, the Greenville Chorale and Orchestra through its
performance wishes to express appreciation during this fiftieth
anniversary year to all who have fought for our country and also
wishes to express, as did Mr. Britten, the desire that peace replace
conflict; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to publicly recognize and commend the Greenville Chorale,
its conductor, and each of its members on the occasion of what will
surely be a very memorable performance. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby declare Saturday,
April 9, 1994, as "Greenville Chorale Day" in South
Carolina in honor of the one hundred seventy-five singers of the
Greenville Chorale and their conductor, Dr. Bingham L. Vick, Jr., who

premier performance in South Carolina.

Greenville Chorale.
