A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE SCHOOL OFFICIALS, COACHES, AND MEMBERS OF THE SCOTT'S BRANCH BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM OF CLARENDON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR WINNING THE 1999 1A STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ON MARCH 13, 1999, AT THE CAROLINA COLISEUM IN COLUMBIA.

Whereas, teamwork and the cooperative effort by the members of a team to achieve a common goal is absolutely essential to winning in the highly competitive game of basketball; and

Whereas, in addition to natural athletic ability and teamwork, skilled coaching and player dedication are also essential to winning, all of which was evident with the Scott's Branch boys high school basketball team; and

Whereas, under the outstanding leadership of Head Coach James B. Smith and his assistant coaches, Robert Sellers and Robert Ross, supported by Athletic Director, Mr. Stanley Singleton, Principal Joe Singleton, and Assistant Principal Malachi Gibson, and as a result of the competitive spirit, teamwork, and excellent performances of each member of the team, this combination enabled the Scott's Branch boys basketball team to record a resounding 46-44 victory over the contending Great Falls High School basketball team in the 1999 1A boys basketball championship game played March 13, 1999, at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia; and

Whereas, the 1999 1A Scott's Branch boys basketball championship team consisted of Terrence Gipson, Leon Bozier, Quentin Gayman, Deandre Canty, Johnny Lawson, Byron Boatwright, Lance Drayton, Brandon Guess, William Bryant, Jermell Adams, Matthew Palmer, Robert White, Darron Phillips, and Jermaine Wade, and was ably supported throughout the season by managers Whitney Wagner and Lamont Junious, statisticians Bradley Smith and Quentin Ballard, and scorekeeper Cedric Bozier; and

Whereas, the successful basketball program at Scott's Branch High School would not be possible without the leadership and support of the Dr. Elijah S. McCants, Superintendent of Clarendon School District One, and school board members Mrs. Mattie Dyson, chairperson, Ms. Patricia Pringle, Mr. B.O. Butler, Mr. Joseph Richburg, Mr. James Jones, Mrs. Loretta Pollard, and attorney Eleazer Carter, all of whom deserve recognition for their contribution to the success of every aspect of Scott's Branch High School; and

Whereas, in recognition of the many hours of practice, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice reflecting the Scott's Branch boys high school basketball team winning the 1999 1A boys basketball championship, the members of the House of Representatives wishNext to publicly recognize and congratulate this outstanding group of young men, their coaches, and supporting school officials, upon their tremendous victory and to Previouswish them continued success in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their hearty congratulations to the school officials, coaches, and members of the Scott's Branch boys high school basketball team of Clarendon County on the occasion of their winning the 1999 1A state basketball championship on March 13, 1999, at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia.
