A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE SCHOOL OFFICIALS, COACHES, AND MEMBERS OF THE LAURENCE MANNING ACADEMY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION 1999 CLASS AAA GIRLS' BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, teamwork and the cooperative effort by the members of a team to achieve a common goal is absolutely essential to winning in the highly competitive game of basketball; and

Whereas, in addition to natural athletic ability and teamwork, skilled coaching and player dedication are also essential to winning, all of which was evident with the 1999 Laurence Manning Academy Girls' Basketball Team as they defeated Hammond School 62-57 in their league's quarter-finals and also defeated Thomas Sumter Academy 60-46 in the semi-finals; and

Whereas, under the outstanding leadership of Head Coach Jack Gibson and his assistant coaches, Kim Seebeck, Morgan Watt, and Bubba Davis, and as a result of the competitive spirit, teamwork, and excellent performances of each member of the team, this combination enabled the Laurence Manning Academy Girls' Basketball Team to record a resounding 45-40 victory over the contending Orangeburg Prep Girls' Basketball Team to win the South Carolina Independent Schools Association 1999 Class AAA Girls' Basketball Championship, their second consecutive state title and the fourth state girls' basketball title in the school's history; and

Whereas, the 1999 Class AAA Laurence Manning Academy Girls' Basketball Championship Team consisted of Amy Collins, Ashleigh Burke, Crystal Donaldson, Melanie Griffen, Lauren Bridges, Lindsay Parnell, Jessi Gainey, Paige Jordan, Rebecca Stewart, Lucia Rawlinson, Kim Meldrim, and JoAnn Weinberg, and was ably supported throughout the season by manager Emily Epperson and scorekeeper Jean Robinson; and

Whereas, the successful basketball program at Laurence Manning Academy would not be possible without the leadership and support of the Headmaster Eugene Nalley and Board of Trustees members Bill Brewer, Chairman, Gary Lee, Tommy Cooper, Danny Hall, Bruce McNair, Martin Beatson, Ken Johnson, Cape Lee, and Mike Newman, all of whom deserve recognition for their contribution to the success of every aspect of Laurence Manning Academy; and

Whereas, in recognition of the many hours of practice, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice reflecting the Laurence Manning Academy Girls' Basketball Team winning the 1999 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA Girls' Basketball Championship, the members of the House of Representatives wishNext to publicly recognize and congratulate this outstanding group of young ladies, their coaches, and supporting school officials upon their tremendous victory and Previouswish them continued success in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their hearty congratulations to the school officials, coaches, and members of the Laurence Manning Academy Girls' Basketball Team on the occasion of their winning the South Carolina Independent Schools Association 1999 Class AAA Girls' Basketball Championship.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to the Laurence Manning Academy Girls' Basketball Team.
