A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND EXTOL CHARLES ALLEN RIDGEWAY, MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF SUMMERTON, FOR HIS ENTHUSIASM AND DEDICATION BY KEEPING HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISES TO CLEAN UP, FIX UP, AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE TOWN AND TO EXTEND BEST PreviousWISHESNext FOR GOOD HEALTH, HAPPINESS, AND PROSPERITY IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, since he was elected as Mayor of Summerton in 1990, Charles Allen Ridgeway has worked vigorously and diligently to improve the appearance and quality of life in town; and

Whereas, Mayor Ridgeway has focused most of his efforts on the areas occupied by low and middle income families; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Mayor Ridgeway, Summerton has received approximately four million dollars in grants to rehabilitate inadequate housing and a grant to build the first multi-family housing units for families qualifying for assisted living benefits; and

Whereas, the town has also received money to implement "community-oriented police protection" in drug infested neighborhoods and to stimulate downtown development and low interest loans to small and minority-owned businesses; and

Whereas, in addition, the town received grants to upgrade inadequate sewer service in the low income area west of Church Street that has been plagued with continuing sewer problems for the past ten to twenty years and to begin supplying water and sewer service to a new subdivision that will provide affordable housing for approximately thirty-five to forty-five low to moderate income families; and

Whereas, the town has recently built a modern post office and is in the process of expanding the home delivery of mail; and

Whereas, another new facility is the state-of-the-art dialysis center, which is a tremendous advantage for citizens who previously traveled to Sumter or Manning for treatments; and

Whereas, Mayor Ridgeway with the aid of the Town Council has run the town very efficiently with fifteen employees, including the eight-man police department. The town's fifteen employees consist of eight African Americans, including the Chief of Police and the Clerk/Treasurer; and

Whereas, Mayor Ridgeway and the Town Council have been instrumental in establishing a fully manned Emergency Medical Services substation in town to reduce emergency response time to the hospital which is ten miles away. They also obtained a new fire station and utility department building without raising taxes; and

Whereas, Mayor Charles Ridgeway has greatly enhanced the Town of Summerton and his good deeds will long be remembered. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby commend and extol Charles Allen Ridgeway, Mayor of the Town of Summerton, for his enthusiasm and dedication by keeping his campaign promises to clean up, fix up, and improve the quality of life in the town and extend best Previouswishes for good health, happiness, and prosperity in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor Charles Allen Ridgeway.
