A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF DR. PreviousEDWARDNext EUGENE TAYLOR OF RICHLAND COUNTY WHO DIED IN OCTOBER OF 1993.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. PreviousEdwardNext Eugene Taylor of Richland County who died in October of 1993; and

Whereas, Dr. Taylor was a graduate of Allen University and taught math and physics at C.A. Johnson High School in Richland County from 1948 to 1961; and

Whereas, he received his Master's Degree in education in 1952, and studied on a fellowship at Harvard; and

Whereas, he was a summer instructor at Tuskeegee Institute from 1959 to 1966; and

Whereas, he served as Principal of F.C. Benson Elementary and Saxon Elementary Schools from 1961 to 1971; and

Whereas, he became Assistant Director of Adult Education for Richland District 1 in 1971; and

Whereas, he became Principal of Roosevelt Village Elementary in 1977; and

Whereas, he received his Doctorate in education from the University of South Carolina in 1979; and

Whereas, upon recognition of his outstanding contributions, Roosevelt Village Elementary was renamed in his honor; and

Whereas, Dr. Taylor held many leadership positions in organizations relating to education and his community, too numerous to mention; and

Whereas, Dr. Taylor was named 1975 Educator of the Year and received the Award of Merit from Alpa Phi Alpha-Southeastern Region; and

Whereas, the void that Dr. Taylor leaves as an educator and leader in this community will be profoundly felt by all with whom he came in contact. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express sympathy to the friends and family of Dr. PreviousEdward Eugene Taylor of Richland County who died in October of 1993.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Taylor's wife, Mattise W. Taylor.
