CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE EDWARD S. BURGESS, CITY OF
GAFFNEY COUNCILMAN, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE EDWARD S. BURGESS, CITY OF GAFFNEY COUNCILMAN, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
Whereas, the member of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of the Honorable Edward S. Burgess, City of Gaffney Councilman; and
Whereas, Councilman Burgess, a native of Anderson, was a World War II veteran, a retired employee of Hoescht Fibers, and was the former owner and operator of Burgess Cash and Carry; and
Whereas, he served as a member of the Gaffney City Council with distinction for a total of seventeen years from 1964 to 1968, 1970 to 1974, and 1992 until his death; and
Whereas, during his tenure as a member of the Gaffney City Council, he served as treasurer and was chairman of the fire committee; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate extend their deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Councilman Burgess' widow, Mrs. Ruth Sanders Burgess, his two children, two stepchildren, and other family members and friends upon their loss. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of the Honorable Edward S. Burgess, City of Gaffney Councilman, one of the most dedicated leaders in his community and this State, upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Edward S. Burgess.
