TO CONGRATULATE RUTH BASKINS ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETY-SIXTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, on January 1, 2023, Ruth Baskins awakened to the celebration of a milestone event, her ninety-sixth birthday; and
Whereas, born in Chesterfield County on January 1, 1927, Ruth was the youngest of Rosetter Campbell Edwards
and Earl
Edwards' ten children; and
Whereas, she received her education at Coulter Academy in Cheraw, J.R. Faison High School in Wadesboro, North Carolina, and Dunbar Trade School in Washington, D.C. Over the years, she was employed with Cheraw Hospital (nursing assistant), INA Schaeffler Group, Inc. (over thirty years), and Connie Maxwell Children's Home. A woman of faith, Ruth Baskins is a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove African American Episcopal Zion Church in Cheraw; and
Whereas, having seen the passing of both of her husbands, Telfeur Frank Pegues and Thomas Baskins, she has one son, Hugh; one daughter-in-law, Evonne; four grandchildren, Desmond, Anthony, Latashia, and Lakeisha; one granddaughter-in-law, Michelle; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and
Whereas, to honor her at this very special time in her life, family and friends joined with her to celebrate her ninety-sixth birthday on December 31, 2022; and
Whereas, Ruth Baskins has lived during the most eventful century of this world's history and in her quiet way has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around her; and
Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor this daughter of the Palmetto State at the celebration of her ninety-sixth birthday and to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Ruth Baskins on the occasion of her ninety-sixth birthday and wish her much happiness in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ruth Baskins.
