H 2210 General Bill, By I.S. Johnson, L.I. Hendricks and D.F. McInnis
A Bill to amend Sections 53-1-20, as amended, 53-1-50 and 53-1-60, Code of
Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to the prohibition against public
sports on Sunday; to unlawful work on Sunday, exceptions to probibited Sunday
work and sales and penalties for violations, so as to allow sporting events
and certain other activities to be exhibited or engaged in on Sunday with the
permission of the municipality or county in which the activity takes place; to
delete from prohibited activities the sale of emergency food needs at markets
and grocery stores which employ more than three employees and the sale of
cosmetics and other personal supplies; to add to the exemptions of prohibited
Sunday activities and sales the sale of food needs, janitorial services,
funeral homes, paper products, educational supplies, cameras, film, flash
bulbs, batteries, baby supplies, hosiery and undergarments, the exhibition of
noncommercial real property and mobile homes, arts and crafts and the
providing of services or products by mechanical means; and to repeal Sections
52-3-10, 52-3-20, 52-3-30, relating to allowing municipalities having a
population between five thousand and sixty-five hundred to grant exclusive
franchises, providing for the terms of such franchises and movie pictures,
athletic sports on Sunday in certain cities, counties and resorts.-at
