A Concurrent Resolution to offer the congratulations of the members of the
General Assembly to one of this State's most prominent art educators, Dr.
Christine Davis, upon being named the 1995 national Art Education Association
(NAEA)National Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ONE OF THIS STATE'S
MOST PROMINENT ART EDUCATORS, DR. CHRISTINE
DAVIS, UPON BEING NAMED THE 1995 NATIONAL ART
EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (NAEA) NATIONAL
SECONDARY ART EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, Dr. Christine Davis, a visual arts teacher at Dorman High
School in Spartanburg County, School District Six, is a consultant
with the College Board Advanced Placement Program and serves on
the Advanced Placement Portfolio Review Committee; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis works to provide leadership and direction to
education reform as a member of the Steering Committee for the
South Carolina Arts in Basic Curriculum Project; an initiative that
provides as a national model for making the arts basic to the
curriculum; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis is the Immediate Past-Editor of the National
Art Education Association (NAEA), National Art Honor Society
Newsletter, and is a former member of the South Carolina Art
Education Association (SCAEA) Board of Directors, where she
contributed significantly to moving arts education reform forward at
the local level in a manner that has had national implications; and
Whereas, the NAEA has on two occasions recognized students from
her program as the National Art Student of the Year, and has
students continuously recognized for accomplishments at the local
and national levels through such programs as the Scholastic Arts
Awards; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis has been recognized on the basis of her
professionalism by the SCAEA as the Secondary Art Educator of
the Year and was the recipient of a 1994 Marie Walsh-Sharpe
Artist -Teacher Fellowship; "she models what she
teaches," and is a past recipient in the NAEA Electronic
Gallery; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis, through her efforts, leadership, and vision has
made the Dorman High School art program a model program that is
worthy of national replication. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize the
outstanding achievements of Dr. Christine Davis, the 1995 NAEA
National Secondary Art Educator of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Dr. Christine Davis.
