A BILL
TO AMEND CHAPTER 3, TITLE 56, CODE OF LAWS OF
SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE
REGISTRATION AND LICENSING, BY ADDING ARTICLE 79
SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL
LICENSE PLATES FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF THE
SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS
AND HUMANITIES.
Whereas, the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and
Humanities will become a state agency on July 1, 1997; and
Whereas, the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Governor's
School for the Arts and Humanities is composed of fifteen
individuals who are committed to providing each student selected to
participate in the program a challenging and enriching educational
experience; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for each board member to have a
special license plate that identifies him as an individual dedicated to
developing our most talented young people in the fields of arts and
humanities. Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 3, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by
adding:
" Article 79
Section 56-3-8000. The department may issue a special motor
vehicle license plate to members of the Board of Directors of the
South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities for
private passenger motor vehicles owned by them. The biennial fee
for this plate is the same as the fee provided in Section 56-3-2020,
and only one plate may be issued to a board member. The plate must
be issued or revalidated biennially for the regular registration and
licensing period."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
