HONORING DEBORAH SMITH HOFFMAN ON THE OCCASION OF HER RECOGNITION BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA PreviousARTSNext COMMISSION AND THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOR HER ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE AREA OF PreviousARTSNext IN EDUCATION AS A ELIZABETH O'NEILL VERNER/GOVERNOR'S AWARD WINNER FOR 2005.

Whereas, Deborah Smith Hoffman currently is Education Associate for the PreviousArtsNext at the South Carolina Department of Education; and

Whereas, Dr. Hoffman's career in PreviousartsNext education began as a public school music teacher and school district PreviousartsNext coordinator; and

Whereas, later, as Director of the PreviousArtsNext in Basic Curriculum Project, she coordinated statewide efforts to enhance PreviousartsNext education, adding to this State's strong reputation nationally in the field; and

Whereas, in her current position at the State Department of Education, Dr. Hoffman continues the achievements and contributions to PreviousartNext education that garnered for her the 2005 Verner/Governor's Award; and

Whereas, under her leadership, the South Carolina Visual and Performing PreviousArtsNext standards have been revised, and the PreviousArtsNext Assessment Project was created; and

Whereas, she has brought summer PreviousartsNext institutes to a growing number of teachers, resulting in increased support of and access to PreviousartsNext education in rural and underserved school districts; and

Whereas, it is these outstanding achievements and contributions to the PreviousartsNext in South Carolina for which Deborah Smith Hoffman is honored for her lifetime of advocacy for the PreviousartsNext in education. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor Deborah Smith Hoffman on the occasion of her recognition by the South Carolina PreviousArtsNext Commission and the Governor of the State of South Carolina for her achievements and contributions in the area of PreviousArtsNext in Education as a Elizabeth O'Neill Verner/Governor's Award Winner for 2005.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Deborah Smith Hoffman.
