A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO MEMORIALIZE ONE OF THIS STATE'S MOST PROMINENT
BUSINESS LEADERS AND RESPECTED PUBLIC SERVANTS,
HENRY CHRISTIAN JOHN TECKLENBURG, JR.
Whereas, Henry Christian John Tecklenburg distinguished himself as an
outstanding public servant and business leader in this State through the
numerous public positions he has occupied in the past thirty-six years;
and
Whereas, Mr. Tecklenburg was instrumental in promoting this state's
business and industry through his efforts to attract foreign investors to
the State during his many distinguished years as chairman of the South
Carolina Ports Authority; and
Whereas, he continuously donated his time to furthering the
advancement of this State through his numerous positions on key state
agencies, such as the State Development Board, the Board of Visitors of
the Medical University of South Carolina, and as head of the State
Transportation Cabinet; and
Whereas, his valuable contributions to South Carolina and Charleston
County politics included serving as chairman of the Democratic Party
and as director of Senator Hollings' campaign for twenty- seven years;
and
Whereas, in honor of his exceptional achievements, he was touted by
President Clinton to head the U.S. Travel and Tourism Office; and
Whereas, Mr. Tecklenburg died unexpectedly on June 7th of this year,
and is survived by his wife Esther and sons Henry Tecklenburg, of
Columbia; Michael Hynes Tecklenburg of Washington, D.C.; John
Joseph Tecklenburg, Dr. Frederick William Tecklenburg ,and Paul
Francis Tecklenburg, all of Charleston. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express sorrow on the death
of Henry Christian John Tecklenburg, Jr., and extend sympathy to his
family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
family of Mr. Tecklenburg.
