S. 1517

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND W. PAUL PRINCE OF HORRY COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina Senate honor individuals who freely give of their time and resources for the good of others, especially those who need it mostNext; and

Whereas, W. Paul Prince of Horry County, an exemplary volunteer worker for many years in his community, has contributed untold hours of valuable volunteer service to the citizens of the Palmetto State and is thereby worthy of praise; and

Whereas, a lifelong resident of Loris, Paul Prince is a self-employed businessman. He and his wife, Carolyn, have been married thirty-nine years, the Lord blessing their union with five children and eight grandchildren; and

Whereas, Paul was elected to serve on county council from January 1983 through December 1992 and January 2002 to the present. Currently serving as vice chairman and as a member of the Infrastructure & Regulation Committee, in the past he has served on the Public Safety Committee and the Administration Committee. During his twenty years on county council, he has been instrumental in implementing countywide rural fire and EMS services, the emergency 911 system, and solid-waste and recycling centers and has been a part of numerous other improvements; and

Whereas, as an active member of Loris First Baptist Church, Paul's enthusiasm to serve stems from a heart that loves the Lord and follows Christ's example of service. Believing that service to humanity is the best work of life, he has spent PreviousmostNext of his life helping other people. On mission trips with the South Carolina Disaster Relief Team, he helped put roofs on houses in Florida after Hurricane Andrew, assisted in stripping out the insides of flooded houses in Albany, Georgia, so they could be restored, and helped with food distribution in McClellanville after Hurricane Hugo; and

Whereas, presently on the Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, Paul Prince has been serving for forty-five years with the Loris Volunteer Fire Department and is a first responder. In addition, he is a member of the Loris Civitan Club, the Loris Merchants Association, and the Loris Chamber of Commerce.     He also has been a working member of the Loris Athletic Boosters Club for more than forty years; and

Whereas, this four-sport high school letterman has always loved sports and has been involved in them for Previousmost of his life. He helped organize recreational programs in Loris, becoming a certified football and basketball official for the South Carolina High School League, and he played semipro football with the Dillon Redskins for several years. He was also a volunteer youth coach for the city recreation league and the school athletic programs, coaching baseball, basketball, and football for twenty-four years; and

Whereas, during a term as president of the Loris Jaycees, Paul led the Loris club to designation as the number-one chapter in the State of South Carolina, and he was awarded a lifetime Jaycee International Senatorship, the highest honor the Jaycees can bestow; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Paul Prince who use their talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend W. Paul Prince of Horry County for his many years of outstanding community service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to W. Paul Prince.
