A JOINT RESOLUTION TO NAME THE HONORABLE LARKIN H. JENNINGS, JR., OF UNION COUNTY, A MAJOR GENERAL IN THE UNORGANIZED MILITIA OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Larkin H. Jennings, Jr., of Union County retired after twenty-eight years in the reserves and active service in World War II with the rank of Brigadier General; and

Whereas, he served as first president following World War II of the South Carolina National Guard Association, and is a past commander of Post 22 of the American Legion of Union County; and

Whereas, while at The Citadel he was captain of the football team, played every minute of every game both offense and defense during his senior year, was All-State for two years, and All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association in his junior and senior years; and

Whereas, he continued to serve his beloved alma mater through eighteen years on The Citadel Board of Visitors, including service as chairman; and

Whereas, The Citadel has honored him by awarding him an honorary doctor of laws degree, Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Larkin H. Jennings, Jr., named Major General

SECTION 1. The Honorable Larkin H. Jennings, Jr., of Union County is named a major general in the unorganized militia of the State of South Carolina.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
