AN ACT TO AMEND AN ACT OF 1984 BEARING RATIFICATION NUMBER 463 RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF OCONEE COUNTY SO AS TO FURTHER PROVIDE FOR THESE ELECTIONS INCLUDING A PROVISION THAT THE MEMBERS OF THIS SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES WHO MUST RESIDE IN SPECIFIED DISTRICTS SHALL BE ELECTED BY THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE DISTRICT FROM WHICH THEY SEEK ELECTION RATHER THAN BY THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE COUNTY, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE OCONEE COUNTY COUNCIL SHALL SET THE COMPENSATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF OCONEE COUNTY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Election of members of board of trustees - school district Oconee County
SECTION 1. Section 1 of an act of 1984 bearing ratification number 463 is amended to read:
"Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the areas in which at least one member of the Board of Trustees of the School District of Oconee County shall reside are the five single-member election districts from which members of the governing body of Oconee County are elected. These members of the school board of trustees shall not be elected by the qualified electors of the county at large but instead must be elected by the qualified electors of the district from which they seek election. Persons seeking election from particular districts must be qualified electors of those districts and must file notice of their candidacy for election from those districts."
Compensation of members
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Oconee County Council shall set the compensation of the members of the Board of Trustees of the School District of Oconee County.
Time effective
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
