The House assembled at 12:00 Noon.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Rev. Larry Parker of Hampton S.C., Pastor of Hampton and Varnville United Methodist Churches in Hampton County, as follows:
Dear Father of Us All:
The vast expanse of the universe sings to us of Your Creative Power;
And your Love embraces us in the smile of a little child.
The world around us whispers to us, in many ways, of Your Exalted Holiness;
And your gentleness comforts us in the solitude of our private struggles.
You call us to great and noble tasks;
And yet when we stumble over our humanity, Your word is one of forgiveness.
You call us to engage in acts of faith;
And the faith to act is a gift from You.
You invite us to look beyond the Why - and into the Why Not;
And You give the vision which see beyond the confining horizons.
Now, we come, humbly, to thank You for those gifts, Dear God, and to pray that in the crucible of decision, and the imperative of action, we shall not be impulsive or foolish, but courageous and thoughtful.
Engaged in the enterprise of living out our potential, we pray that we will celebrate Your Holiness and Power - and be blessed by Your Love, Your Comfort, Your Forgiveness, Your Faithfulness, and Your Vision. Grant it, today, we pray, Gracious God.
Amen.
