AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 20-7-1370, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF JUDGES, SO AS TO INCREASE THE TERMS OF FAMILY COURT JUDGES FROM FOUR TO SIX YEARS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Judges' terms increased

SECTION 1. Section 20-7-1370B of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"B. Family court judges must be elected by the General Assembly for terms of six years and until their successors are elected and qualify."

Continuation of terms of present judges

SECTION 2. Those family court judges presently serving shall continue to serve until the expiration of the terms for which they were elected and until their successors are elected and qualify.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
