The House assembled at 12:00 Noon.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark as follows:
With the afterglow of Easter still echoing in the lives of many of us, we come, O Lord, in these quiet moments of prayer asking Your in-dwelling Spirit to shine in our hearts, so often darkened by doubt and fear. Strengthen and guide us by Your truths to lead us in right paths, along rewarding roads, and make plain the paths we should go. Bestow upon us good judgment, seasoned with understanding, flavored with charity, mixed with justice. Make us strong to struggle against all that is evil, to stand valiantly for what is right. In all things enable is to hear the Psalmist: "You are my Rock and my Fortress; therefore for Your Name's sake lead me and guide me" (Psalm 31:3).
Amen.
