The House assembled at 10:00 A.M.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark as follows:
Almighty God, Creator and Sustainer, we are thankful for Your generous gifts which continually come to us and for Your constant strength which sustains us. And now as we face the duties of this day, we pray that our plans may be purified, our ambitions refined, our minds cleansed of all unworthy thoughts, and our lives to be made fit dwelling places for Your presence. Enlighten our understanding, confirm every high purpose, and make strong our determination to make Your way our way. When the way is difficult and the outcome uncertain, give us the assurance that "you are nearer to us than breathing and closer to us than hands and feet".
To a good and gracious God we make our prayer. Amen.
