EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE AT THE DEATH OF WILLIAM E. HASLETT OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY, FORMER MAYOR OF WINNSBORO, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, William Eben Haslett of Fairfield County died on March 2, 1992, at the age of seventy-seven; and
Whereas, Mr. Haslett was a retired merchant and cattle farmer and had been actively involved in many capacities over the years at St. John's Episcopal Church in Winnsboro; and
Whereas, he served on the Winnsboro City Council and was Mayor of Winnsboro from 1957 to 1965; and
Whereas, he was formerly the manager and treasurer of A.E. Davis and Company and a purchasing agent for U.S. Rubber and had been county chairman of the Republican Party; and
Whereas, he also served on the State Development Board and contributed greatly of his time and talents to many other civic organizations and causes; and
Whereas, he was an outstanding individual who was greatly respected and admired by all who knew him; and
Whereas, we want his family and his friends to know that they are uppermost in our minds and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of William E. Haslett of Fairfield County, former mayor of Winnsboro, and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Haslett, in care of his widow, Frances Davis Haslett of Winnsboro.
