TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 8-13-640 SO AS TO PROHIBIT MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FROM SOLICITING, ACCEPTING, OR RECEIVING POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS FROM A REGISTERED LOBBYIST OR OTHERS DURING THE TIME THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IS IN SESSION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 8-13-640. No member of the General Assembly may solicit, accept, or receive a political contribution from a registered lobbyist, an entity represented by a registered lobbyist, or an employee, officer, or director of an entity represented by a registered lobbyist during the time the General Assembly is in session. For the purposes of this section, the 'time the General Assembly is in session' means:
(1) from the first day of the regular annual session of the General Assembly through sine die adjournment of that session;
(2) from the first day of an extraordinary or special session of the General Assembly through sine die adjournment of that session;
(3) from the first day of an organizational session of either house of the General Assembly following a general election through final adjournment of that session."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
