TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 4-1-180 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE GOVERNING BODY OF A COUNTY TO GIVE PUBLIC NOTICE IN A NEWSPAPER OF GENERAL CIRCULATION IN THE COUNTY AT LEAST THIRTY DAYS BEFORE IT ORDERS THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW CORRECTIONAL FACILITY OR THE RENOVATION OR ENLARGEMENT OF AN EXISTING FACILITY AND TO SPECIFY THE SIZE OF THE NOTICE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 4 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 4-1-180. At least thirty days before the governing body of a county orders the construction of a new county correctional facility or the enlargement or renovation of an existing facility, it must give notice of the proposal in a newspaper of general circulation in the county. The notice must be at least one-quarter page in size."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
