TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 16-11-770 SO AS TO MAKE IT A MISDEMEANOR OFFENSE TO MAKE A COPY OF CERTAIN KEYS OR TO CAUSE A COPY OF CERTAIN KEYS TO BE MADE, AND TO PROVIDE A PENALTY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 16-11-770. Whoever makes a copy of any key which is marked `do not copy' or which contains any similar prohibitory wording, or whoever causes a copy of such a key to be made, is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be punished by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars or by imprisonment not to exceed thirty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the court.
The penalty provided in this section is applicable for each separate copy made of a key such as that described in the above paragraph."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
