TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-3890 SO AS TO PROHIBIT PERSONS UNDER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE FROM RIDING IN THE OPEN BED OF A PICKUP TRUCK OR TRAILER.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-5-3890. It is unlawful for a person under eighteen years of age to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck or trailer if the vehicle is travelling in excess of twenty-five miles an hour. The operator of a motor vehicle who permits a person under eighteen years of age to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck or trailer in a manner prohibited by this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than twenty-five dollars or imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
