TO PROVIDE THAT FOR 1992 ONLY ALL NONPARTISAN ELECTIONS CONDUCTED AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS JOINT RESOLUTION MUST BE HELD ON THE FOURTH TUESDAY IN AUGUST, TO PROVIDE THAT FOR 1992 ONLY ALL CANDIDATES SEEKING NOMINATION IN NONPARTISAN ELECTIONS MUST FILE THEIR PETITIONS OR STATEMENTS OF CANDIDACY BY NOON ON JUNE TWENTY-FIFTH, TO PROVIDE THAT PERSONS WHO HAVE FILED FOR OFFICES IN NONPARTISAN ELECTIONS ON THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS JOINT RESOLUTION ARE CONSIDERED TO BE EXEMPTED FROM FILING FOR THE ELECTION CONDUCTED IN 1992, AND TO PROVIDE THAT TERMS OF OFFICE WHICH EXPIRE IN 1992 ARE EITHER EXTENDED OR TERMINATED TO COMPLY WITH THE ELECTION DATES PROVIDED IN THIS JOINT RESOLUTION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. (A) For 1992 only, a candidate seeking nomination in a nonpartisan election must submit his statement of candidacy or petition by noon on June twenty-fifth, mutatis mutandis.
(B) A candidate who has filed for a nonpartisan election after the effective date of this joint resolution in accordance with the law which would otherwise govern the dates for filing is not required to file again and the earlier filing is considered a sufficient filing.
SECTION 2. (A) For 1992 only, the date for conducting all nonpartisan elections scheduled after the effective date of this joint resolution is the fourth Tuesday in August.
(B) The terms of office of all nonpartisan offices which expire in 1992 are either extended or terminated to comply with the provisions of this joint resolution, mutatis mutandis.
SECTION 3. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
