EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS TO THE REVEREND DR. D.E. FRANKLIN ON THE SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS SERVICE AS PASTOR OF GREATER ST. LUKE BAPTIST CHURCH OF COLUMBIA.
Whereas, the Reverend Dr. D.E. Franklin has for seven years served with dedication as the pastor of Greater St. Luke Baptist Church of Columbia; and
Whereas, he has done much for the church over the past seven years, including: (1) organizing a soup kitchen that has served over 50,000 meals over the past four and one-half years; (2) organizing a youth department to minister to the youth of the church and the youth of the community; (3) purchasing two vans to provide transportation for those who had no way to travel to and from church; (4) organizing a senior citizens banquet to honor those sixty-five and above; and (5) organizing the Young Brotherhood to minister to the young men of St. Luke to mold their character and increase their faith; and
Whereas, in 1965, Dr. Franklin received his B.S. degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania; he attended Temple University, School of Sacred Theology (now the Gordon Conwell School of Theology) and received his D.D. and S.T.D. degrees in 1970; and he continued his education with further studies in Kansas, Ohio, and Georgia; and
Whereas, he was ordained as a minister in 1961 and has pastored a number of churches in Pennsylvania and South Carolina over the years, including his current service as pastor at St. Luke; and
Whereas, he is a dedicated and outstanding minister who possesses great talent and has the respect, admiration, and love of all who know him; and
Whereas, on Sunday, May 3, 1992, the members of Columbia's Greater St. Luke Baptist Church have planned a celebration of great joy to honor Dr. Franklin on the occasion of his seventh anniversary as pastor of St. Luke; and
Whereas, this occasion is one which merits recognition and congratulations. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extends congratulations to the Reverend Dr. D.E. Franklin on the seventh anniversary of his service as pastor of Greater St. Luke Baptist Church of Columbia.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Reverend Dr. D.E. Franklin.
