The House assembled at 10:00 A.M.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark as follows:
Almighty God, help us to come before You worthily, to pray earnestly and to seek Your way with diligence. Enlighten our understanding, purify our thoughts, confirm our high purposes and quicken our will in Your way. May we always build upon the firm foundation of truth, justice and good will. In our every activity, give us the strength to "depart from evil and do good, to seek peace and pursue it". Keep us diligent in our efforts, dependable in our loyalty, and dedicated to the highest good. Together may we go forward to build a stronger State and a better world for all Your people.
Keep open our ears to Your voice as You spoke through the prophet Jeremiah: "Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may be well with you" (Jeremiah 7:23b). Amen.
