TO CREATE A REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION FOR HORRY COUNTY AND TO ABOLISH THE OFFICE OF COMMISSIONERS OF ELECTION AND THE REGISTRATION BOARD OF HORRY COUNTY AND DEVOLVE THEIR POWERS AND DUTIES UPON THE REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. There is created the Registration and Elections Commission for Horry County. There are seven members of the commission who must be appointed by a majority of the Horry County Legislative Delegation, including the resident Senators, who are appointed for terms of two years and until their successors are appointed and qualify. Vacancies on the commission may be filled by appointment in the manner of original appointment for the unexpired terms only. The members of the commission shall receive compensation as may be appropriated by the county council.
SECTION 2. The office of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board for Horry County are abolished. The powers and duties of the Commissioners of Election and the Registration Board are devolved upon the commission created in Section 1.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
