EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF DR. ROY B. SUBER OF LAURENS COUNTY AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Dr. Roy B. Suber of Clinton, Laurens County, died on March 25, 1993, at the age of seventy-one; and
Whereas, he graduated from Davidson College and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was the youngest lieutenant commander and navigator aboard the USS Charles Carroll; and
Whereas, he also was a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, interned at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, and returned to Whitmire, where he practiced medicine from 1952-1963; and
Whereas, in 1965, Dr. Suber became Superintendent of Whitten Village, and, by order of the Governor, he organized and was the first State Commissioner of Mental Retardation for South Carolina, serving from 1967-1969; and
Whereas, from 1975-1983, he was a general practitioner of medicine in Clinton, and, from 1983 to 1986, when he retired, he was a medical consultant for the Social Security Department in Columbia; and
Whereas, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, a member of the South Carolina Medical Association, and an accomplished organist; and
Whereas, he was an outstanding individual who contributed greatly in many ways to his community and was respected and admired by all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Dr. Roy B. Suber of Laurens County and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Dr. Roy B. Suber.
