The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.

A quorum being present the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, in uncertain days, hear words from the Book of Daniel who lived in uncertain times (6:10):
"Now when Daniel knew that the (evil) writing
was signed, he went into his house; and his win-
dows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem,
he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and
prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he
did aforetime."
Let us pray.

We thank You, God of the ages, for the remembrance of Daniel... and his loyal faith in his God... and the guidance he sought in tough times... and received from the God of the Temple in Jerusalem.

Grant that this day the windows of our hearts may be open toward You in order that we, too, may have the spiritual resources to live in a difficult world as God-fearing-men-and-women-of-faith.

When truth is distorted... and the emotions of peoples like raging waters make policy and decisions of government difficult in the turbulent cross currents of our modern life, give to our leaders the instincts to discern between friends and foes... and the wisdom, patience, and character that were given to Daniel long ago.

In the Name of Daniel's God, we pray.

Amen.

The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
