South Carolina General Assembly

The Senate assembled at 12:00 Noon, the hour to which it stood adjourned and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.

A quorum being present the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, hear the words of the psalmist who sang in the 119th Psalm (v. 105):

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path."
Let us pray.

Our Father, as we come to consider budgets and programs let us see beyond these figures and see... people.

Help us to learn from Jesus of Galilee: How He took a towel and a basin, and, girding Himself, served His people in humility. How He was able to see people with sensitivity and understanding appreciation of their struggles and their failures. He saw their virtues and vices and sought to be helpful to all... the rich and the poor, the good and the wicked.

So, in this our hour of responsibility and leadership, let us be both willing and able because we can say with the psalmist:

"Thy word is a lamp to our feet,

And a light to our path."

Amen.
