TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS OF DR. MARION WOODARD WRIGHT MCLESTER OF REMBERT WHO DIED FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1994.
Whereas, Dr. Marion Woodard Wright McLester of Rembert, wife of the late Leslie McLester, died Friday, December 30, 1994; and
Whereas, born in Eastover, Dr. McLester was a daughter of the late Hampton and Margarette Tucker Woodard. She was a graduate of Benedict College and Morris College, attended South Carolina State College, and received an honorary doctor of humanities degree from Morris College; and
Whereas, Dr. McLester was a former teacher, principal, and tutor with Rafting Creek Elementary School and a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church, where she was secretary of the Sunday school, president of the senior missionary society, and a member of the deaconess board; and
Whereas, Dr. McLester was president emeritus of Women's Auxiliary of Sumter Association, corresponding secretary emeritus, director of district vice presidents, co-drive director of the Morris College Drive of the Women's Baptist Education and Missionary State Convention of South Carolina, and trustee emeritus of Morris College; and
Whereas, surviving are daughters, Thomasina Hunter and Celess Chapman, both of Detroit, and Margaret Davis of Sumter; a son, John Wright of Rembert; a stepson, Birnie Wright of Washington; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends and admirers of Dr. Marion Woodard Wright McLester who died Friday, December 30, 1994.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Dr. Marion Woodard Wright McLester.
